he 14-year-old suspect in the Georgia high-school shooting and his father appeared in court Friday in an increasingly common move to hold both a parent and a minor responsible for a school shooting.

Lawyers for Colt Gray and his father, Colin Gray, didn’t post bail, leaving them on track to remain in custody through their trials. The younger Gray is accused of carrying out the deadliest school shooting in more than a year. Four people were killed and nine were injured Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga.

Investigators said the older Gray allowed his son, who lived with him, to possess a weapon even though he knew the teenager was a threat to himself and others. The father faces up to 180 years in prison on charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty. He was booked into jail Thursday night, according to jail records.
