Secret Service

"Clueless", in many respects

7/22/24:
Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned today as the Director of the Secret Service. The Wall Street Journal explained the problem after yesterday's Congressional hearing as Clueless at the Secret Service. WSJ said that Director Kimberly Cheatle can’t explain what happened, or why a would-be assassin was able to get so close with a rifle to nearly kill Donald Trump. Anyone with a video screen knows about the failure to protect Donald Trump from a would-be assassin in Butler, Pa. But don’t look to Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle for answers because she doesn’t have any. Ms. Cheatle becomes the 2nd female director to resign after Secret Service security lapses. We know the gunman was spotted prior to Trump coming out on stage. Why? We know that the gunman was considered suspicious and a person of interest. Why? We know they had lost contact with the gunman for a while. Why? We know that the building was a short distance (150 yards) from the speaker's position on stage at the rally and had a direct line of site, but was not secured. Why? We know that the building was considered out of the surveillance area, and supposedly left to local officers to secure. Why? We know that the Secret Service allowed Trump to go on stage before they had isolated, examined or apprehended the suspect or secured the building. Why? Ms. Cheatle could provide no answers, nor provide any coherent explanations. She did appear "clueless'. The following may explain why no security was on that roof-top so close to the rally. One report indicates that 'it was too hot' for local police officers to go up on the roof' that the shooter subsequently occupied. And, because of this, did the counter sniper who eventually took out the shooter hesitate, thinking what they saw was one of the security detail on the roof? Precious seconds that could have saved a life? Even more ridiculous was this line of questioning at the Congressional hearing yesterday. This question may indicate why we have the problems we have. At this time, in this situation, at this hearing, in the context of the questions at this hearing, it was for some reason important to this Representative to know about the DEI related training programs within the Secret Service. Unbelievable. 'Clueless!' This is a frightening display that once again reflects on the sad state of our military (Afghanistan, Chinese balloons, Israeli pier...) and Secret Service (Jan 6th, cocaine-gate at the WH, Trump attempted assassination,,,) readiness. Our enemies are watching and they, as will as random terrorists now roaming through out the US, will surely be redesigning their attack plans using the mistakes they learn from this situation. The last 2 questions. Who else is going to be fired in the chain of command, and/or on the ground, from this colossal failure? And, what are w going to do so this doesn't happen again? It should not take 60 DAYS to figure this out! More From The Wall Street Journal (subscription required): More From The Wall Street Journal (subscription required): More From CNN:
