Utah’s Legislature passed S.J.R. 401, which refers to voters for approval an amendment to Utah’s constitution that would ban foreign funding from flowing to ballot initiative campaigns.
For decades, foreign nationals have been prohibited from making donations to political candidates. However, neither federal law nor Utah law applies the same ban to ballot initiatives. Utah is now leading the charge to change that.
