A power outage at a water purification plant caused the city’s water pressure to drop; Houston schools were closed

Houston has issued a boil water notice after a power outage at a water purification plant caused the city’s water pressure to drop.

Houston, which has a population of 2.3 million people, notified residents of the boil water notice on Sunday evening. Houston’s school district closed Monday because of the boil water notice.

Water for drinking, cooking, and making ice should be boiled and cooled to ensure destruction of harmful bacteria and other microbes, city officials said. Residents can also use bottled water instead.
