True Progressives vs True Conservatives

from The Gray Area:

The 2016 Presidential Primary Election season is coming down to the Democrats debating who is the “true progressive” and the Republicans debating who is the “true conservative”.

The conservative debate is nothing new in the Republican party contests over the past 16 years. GW Bush identified himself in 2000 as the “compassionate conservative” to clearly brand himself within the party and take the bite out of Democrat conservative attacks. In 2016 you see Cruz, Trump, and Rubio, attack each other and the rest of the field for that brand and against that brand. Democrats love the help they get among Republicans scaring the electorate.

To make sure the Democrat party doesn’t frighten the electorate after 8 years of Obama, the Democrat candidates are openly differentiating themselves and helping define the party. In the last two events, a Town Hall and a debate, you can see this playing out in front of you. Hillary Clinton is trying to separate from the socialist, while still holding on to the progressive label, so as not to scare people about the Democrat Party political direction.

In an article I wrote in April, 2015 I said that in the Democrat party this is all according to plan. “What does all this … mean? Does it mean that Mrs Clinton is too centrist for the far left liberals in her party? No. Don’t be fooled by any of this. Mrs Clinton is the same liberal Democrat she has always been. There is nothing centrist about her … No, this is all part of the Democrat campaign strategy to distance Mrs Clinton from her far left liberal worldview and from President Obama. If she can pull the wool over the eyes of independents, as her husband did, as Obama did, she can win the presidency in 2016.

At that time it was rumors of Elizabeth Warren as her far left Democrat competition. A week later, Bernie Sanders entered the race to do the same thing. The difference between Sanders and Clinton in the Democrat world is almost non-existent. They want the same thing. One wants to give it to you by a thousand pin pricks, the other by using a big knife. Either way you bleed to death.

Simultaneously, Mrs. Clinton is trying to attach herself to the “successful” progressive record of President Obama. The Democrats have established a far left Socialist competitor to Mrs Clinton, while she embraces a far left Marxist President’s record, all to make her look centrist. At the same time, the Democrat machine is trying to make the Republican candidates look like extremists in comparison.

A complex plan, but one that can work, if she is not indicted. And, if she is, one that could work for a Biden/Warren ticket.
