As night fell over the Cook County Jail on Wednesday, two distinct but somewhat contrasting emotions exuded from the defense attorney in one of Illinois’s most high-profile cases.

Nenye Uche, an attorney for 39-year-old actor Jussie Smollett, was elated that his client had been released from jail after serving six days of a 150-day sentence for staging a hate crime against himself in January 2019.
