CRT in Education Bill
Legislators cannot simply “ban” teaching critical race theory because it takes so many forms. Instead, they must address its implementation in the classroom. CRT is a lens through which everything is taught. It results in treating students and teachers differently based on race, and can be found in the Social, Emotional Learning (SEL) method of teaching, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and “Action Civics”, among others.
One federal bill, the " Combatting Racist Teaching in Schools Act" (H.R. 3163), introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) would prohibit federal funds from going to any elementary, secondary school, or college that promotes race-based ideologies.
States can likewise hold schools accountable who violate these principles, and also require curriculum transparency to better equip and empower parents to hold local schools and school boards accountable.
