President Joe Biden is using the Defense Production Act to spur the production of solar panels and other clean energy technologies.
Unless the U.S. expands manufacturing, the nation will have to rely on imports for the climate-change fighting technology, the administration said in announcing the decision Monday. That would leave the U.S. vulnerable to supply chain problems and unable to benefit from jobs connected to the growing industry.
“For too long the nation’s clean energy supply chain has been over-reliant on foreign sources and adversarial nations,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement.
