from TPPF,
10/5/21:

What To Know: China is now rationing electricity due to a shortage of coal. But it’s unclear what’s causing that shortage.

The TPPF Take: There could be another reason for coal rationing: Designs on Taiwan.

“Might the PRC be preparing for conflict over Taiwan?” asks TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “If so, it might stockpile coal by curtailing consumption. China has already acted to boost domestic coal production while shifting imports from Australia, with Mongolia seeing a more than doubling of coal shipments to the PRC. The net effect is that China has insulated itself from a loss of coal shipped by sea while obscuring this effort in a green cloak.”
