Republican Sen. Tim Scott had called the Twitter post ‘indefensible’ after the president shared it.

President Trump removed a tweet Sunday in which he shared a video showing one of his supporters yelling “white power” at an opponent at a political rally in Florida.

A White House spokesman said Mr. Trump wasn’t aware of the comments in the video when he retweeted it with approving language for his supporters. The term “white power” is an expression used by white supremacists and neo-Nazi groups.

“President Trump is a big fan of The Villages. He did not hear the one statement made on the video. What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a written statement.
