What to Know: A new essay in Newsweek points out that governors can’t pick and choose which constitutional rights their citizens have.

The TPPF Take: There’s no pandemic exception to constitutional rights.

“As the current pandemic has continued, pundits, politicians, and even judges have behaved as if there is a pandemic exception to the Constitution,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “Public health has been used as an excuse to justify the closure of all ‘non-essential’ businesses in counties where there hasn’t been a single reported case of COVID-19, closure of churches, restrictions on leaving the home, and even the arrest and jailing of hairdressers.”
