Radicals begin to reveal their totalitarian desires in Houston

Suppose you were at home having dinner with 6 or 8 friends and the conversation turned to political issues. That has probably happened many times in recent years I’m sure. But suppose that when it did, you decided to turn to sports or the weather because you were afraid of someone telling the authorities and getting a letter from the government lawyers to cease and desist have an opinion. Well, if you live in Houston, that’s the America you now live in.

Can’t believe this is true? Then look at what the mayor in Houston is doing this week.

FoxNews reported on Tuesday that The city of Houston has issued subpoenas demanding a group of pastors turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor. And those ministers who fail to comply could be held in contempt of court.

This is as shocking a development as anyone could possibly imagine in America. If you have an opinion that a government official doesn’t like, the government is going to harass you, you are going to be required to turn over personal documents, you are going to be subpoenaed and the government is going to make it possible for you to be socially attacked by extremists in the community.

Political and social commentary is not a crime. Freedom of speech is protected by the Constitution. You are allowed to make any statement, no matter how stupid, that you want to. The left does it everyday. Slander and liable laws take care of malicious attacks on people, but they are fact based laws, not a person’s opinion.

The Founders knew from personal experience that governments have throughout history and would in the future control thought and words if given any opportunity. This is a chilling reminder of how after 238 years, America is not safe from the totalitarian desires of the radical left.

So radical is this action by Houston’s mayor, it is hard to find any public support from the leftist news media. Not even The Huffington Post, who was at least brave enough to run a story on the subject, could find a way to support it publicly, even though the title of the article attempted to, Why Houston Is Forcing Pastors To Turn In Their Sermons.

The radical left, under the headings of tolerance, diversity, fairness and politically correctness, has been trying to control thought and speech in America for the last 50 years. These ‘progressives’ have been encouraging Marxist principles for over 100 years. So none of this is new. What is new is the brazenness of their actions these days. They believe they have gotten far enough pushing our culture to the Marxist left that they can “come out of the closet” aggressively with their real intentions. Now you know why they are so intent on doing away with the Constitution in favor of a living Constitution, one that changes based on the whims of the elite. The Constitution does not allow this kind of totalitarian rule, governmental oppression and control of free speech and must be preserved at all cost.

Speech is not the only 1st amendment provision the radical left is after, it is also directly attacking freedom of religion. Anthony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council, said pastors around the nation should rally around the Houston ministers. This is the moment I wrote about in my book, “God Less America.” I predicted that the government would one day try to silence American pastors. I warned that under the guise of “tolerance and diversity” elected officials would attempt to deconstruct religious liberty.

Sadly, that day arrived sooner than even I expected.
