What to Know: Are we so doomed that we owe it to our children to not have them? That’s the latest contention from the Green movement.

“But if climate change causes wars to break out, would one still choose to birth children into a high likelihood of violent death?” asks Alexis Papazoglou in The New Republic. “And if the looming 12-year deadline is missed, and further temperature increases become statistically inevitable, what purpose could life have in the face of an unavoidable, collective downfall? At least people living today still have the agency to change things. But bringing children into a decaying world, without even the opportunity to do something about it, seems a cruel fate to inflict on someone, especially your own child.”

The TPPF Take: This isn’t an outlier; U.S. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has asked the same question, in regard to her Green New Deal.

“This shows how profoundly anti-human the Green movement can be,” says TPPF’s Kathleen Hartnett White. “The fact is, as Greg Ip writes in the Wall Street Journal, ‘Poverty around the world is plummeting; half the world is now middle class; and illiteracy, disease and deadly violence are receding.’ Children born today—and tomorrow—aren’t facing a ‘collective downfall,’ unless we enact the policies in the Green New Deal that could reverse all of these gains, and plunge our children back into pre-modern miseries.”
