FBI raid of Trump Mar-A-Lago home & Indictment
Special counsel Jack Smith took over the case in November 2022. In June 2023, Smith’s team indicted Trump on 37 counts, accusing him of unauthorized retention of defense information, conspiring to obstruct justice, withholding government documents, scheming to conceal information from a grand jury, and causing false statements to be made to the government. They also charged Trump’s personal aide Walt Nauta on six counts, accusing him of making false statements to the FBI and conspiring with Trump to conceal information.

Do prosecutors understand the forces they are unleashing?

The title of this post above ran as a sub-head in the WSJ. My answer is yes, of course they do! Then this was another headline in the same paper: Campaign trail runs through courts.  Certainly the Trump indictment and other court activities targeting Trump will be front and center in the 2024 election. So will everything Biden. From bank accounts, to bribery, to Hunter Biden, to weaponized government will be litigated, or attempt to be litigated, over the next 18 months. This will balance against already 2 Trump indictments and probably more. The entire election will be about who is the most evil and dangerous to the country. Knowing this, the radical left is not doubling down, but quadrupling down, on everything negative and illegal (supposedly) about Trump. What they may not realize is that everything they attempt to get Trump over, will point a finger at their candidate and previous candidates. Here is what the government is after in the Trump documents case: United States of America v. Donald J. Trump Federal prosecutors are accusing Donald Trump of holding on to sensitive military secrets he knew he shouldn’t have retained access to, sharing them, and directing his staff to help him evade authorities’ efforts to get them back. According to the indictment which was unsealed today, the classified documents in Trump’s possession included information about defense and weapons capabilities, nuclear programs, and plans for a possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack. WSJ’s Aruna Viswanatha discusses the 37-count indictment, thirty-one of the counts are for violating the ancient and seldom-enforced Espionage Act for the “willful retention of national defense information.”, and what it means for Trump’s presidential run. Further Reading: -Trump Charged Over Willful Retention of Classified Information, Obstruction -Trump Indicted in Classified Documents Case Further Listening: -Why FBI Agents Searched Mar-a-Lago -What's Going on With Biden's Classified Documents? But it’s striking, and legally notable, that the indictment never mentions the Presidential Records Act (PRA) that allows a President access to documents, both classified and unclassified, once he leaves office. It allows for good-faith negotiation with the National Archives. Yet the indictment assumes that Mr. Trump had no right to take any classified documents. Whether you love or hate Donald Trump, isn't what's left out of the accusations and indictment of Donald Trump the thing that bothers you most?
  • Why is the DOJ, the department of justice, only interested in half the story?
  • And, what about the obviously lack of prosecutorial consistency with others of both parties in recent years, i.e., Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Mike Pence and lets not forget former FBI director Comey's leak to the NY Times. Why, as Comey famously said, no prosecutor would bring a charge against Hillary Clinton different than this one with Trump? Why would the indictment not say, this is different than others in these ways, so at least the jurors would understand, if not the public, since this is really a campaign narrative targeting not justice, but only the voting public.
  • The Washington Post tried to explain away this point, but all it really does is prove the point, a double standard of justice based on political parties.
Even The Washington Post said this: Something has gone deeply wrong when, in a historic first, federal prosecutors reach the point of filing criminal charges against a former and possibly future president. But, the media continues it's diversions. Here George Stephanopoulos Feigns Outrage When (Now Former) Trump Lawyer Brings Up Biden Docs. His outrage, supposed ignorance is what's 'ridiculous'. This type of censorship & misinformation on the part of the liberal media proves they are either ignorant or lying for a political purpose. The same institutions that tormented former President Donald Trump for years with false accusations of collusion with Russia are making yet another brazen attempt to rig the next presidential election against the wishes of the American people.Democrats and their cronies in the Department of Justice and the FBI have a history of election meddling to achieve their political goals. Here is a list from the last 2 presidential elections and what is beginning with the next one. This tweet offers a point to ponder on the indictment of former President Trump.
