In today’s episode, I have a FASCINATING conversation with Noelle Mering, author of the book Awake Not Woke. Noelle is both brilliant and courageous! She helps me understand some of the chaos in our society today, and clearly maps out the Christian response. What I loved about my conversation with Noelle is that we address difficult, complex topics without getting tangled up in politics. 🙅‍♂️ If you are anything like me, you really don’t want more division. At the same time, you should not ignore ideologies that undermine our families and Christian communities. Today’s episode dives into all of it. Key parts of our conversation: Defining our terms. What’s woke? The philosophical origins of the woke movement Woke ideology appeals to our desire for GOOD The false binary of “either you’re with us or you’re on the side of hatred.” The human need to identify an enemy Fight injustice when we see it, but in a Christian way What “decolonization” means and why it is a flawed concept Shocking story of the Mauri people of New Zealand Noelle’s 90’s movie analogy for relating to different types of people observing the woke movement. The battle against ideology is a spiritual one (rely on Christ!)
