Mid-term political narrative is behind stop in North Korea

The debate over VP Kamala Harris's gaffe about our close 'alliance' with North Korea' has obscured the real purpose for her visit. Added on to a trip to Japan to attend the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, this stop and her 'hard words' toward both North Korea and China were meant as sound bites for use during the upcoming mid-term elections to shore up the Democrats' foreign policy reputation.

Among the many policy failures of the Biden/Harris administration, and by extension the Democrat members of Congress, is their complete lack of a foreign policy. This deficiency screamed out at Americans during the abysmal withdrawal from Afghanistan and every instance after that has confirmed the failure.

A simple 'drive-by' photo op in North Korea 6 weeks before the elections couldn't hurt, right?. Unfortunately for the Vice President, everything that happened before and after the visit have proven to highlight the administration's lack of serious foreign policy.

The Wall Street Journal provides a 'just the facts' report on VP Harris' trip. Vice President Kamala Harris’s Asia trip focused on reassuring allies of Washington’s security commitments.

Vice President Kamala Harris visited the heavily fortified area that separates the Koreas and condemned the Kim Jong Un regime, calling its weapons tests destabilizing. “In the North, we see a brutal dictatorship, rampant human-rights violations and an unlawful weapons program that threatens peace and stability,” Ms. Harris said in a speech Thursday. Hours after Ms. Harris had departed for the U.S., North Korea on Thursday evening fired two short-range ballistic missiles from the country’s inland Sunchon area to the north of Pyongyang, according to South Korea’s military. The missiles reached an altitude of about 31 miles and traveled about 186 miles before splashing into the waters between the Korean Peninsula and Japan, said Tokyo’s Defense Ministry. A day earlier, Pyongyang had fired two ballistic missiles ahead of Ms. Harris’s arrival to South Korea. That followed a short-range-weapon test on Sunday.
