Democrats Ramp Up Post-Mueller Pressure on White House

6/10/19
from The Wall Street Journal,
6/10/19:

Two House committees plan hearings on the Mueller report’s conclusions, and the full chamber is expected to vote to enforce a subpoena of Barr.

House Democrats this week initiate their first hearings on special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian election interference and ties to the Trump campaign, in a test of the party’s strategy of building public support before possibly launching impeachment proceedings. The Democratic-led chamber is also expected to take the momentous step of authorizing Congress to go to court to enforce subpoenas

On Monday, the House Judiciary Committee will hear from John Dean, the Nixon White House counsel who pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal, and former U.S. attorneys as part of a hearing on the lessons of the Mueller report. On Wednesday, the House Intelligence Committee will delve into the section of the report dealing with Russian election interference as part of a continuing focus on counterintelligence, or information gathered to protect against espionage.

In between, the full House is expected to vote Tuesday to formally authorize the Judiciary Committee to go to court to enforce subpoenas to Attorney General William Barr for the unredacted Mueller report, along with underlying material, and to former White House counsel Don McGahn.
