Impeachment
Since Donald Trump took office in January 2017, Democrats, the media and some Republicans, have called for his removal under articles of impeachment. Impeachment in the United States is the process by which the lower house of a legislature brings charges against a civil officer of government for crimes alleged to have been committed, analogous to the bringing of an indictment by a grand jury. At the federal level, the impeachment process is a three-step procedure. First, the Congress investigates. This investigation typically begins in the House Judiciary Committee, but may begin elsewhere. Second, the House of Representatives must pass, by a simple majority of those present and voting, articles of impeachment, which constitute the formal allegation or allegations. Upon passage, the defendant has been "impeached". Third, the Senate tries the accused. In the case of the impeachment of a president, the Chief Justice of the United States presides over the proceedings. Conviction in the Senate requires a two-thirds vote. The result of conviction is removal from office.

To quote from the Federalist article below; "John Bolton’s Testimony Would Not Be The Smoking Gun Democrats Need" and "Is he really going to say, “The president told me he doesn’t care about corruption, he just wanted to get that pesky Joe Biden and get him good?” Is there anyone on the face of the planet who thinks that such a conversation could have taken place?" Yesterday, a conveniently timed leak to, of all unbiased news organizations The New York Times, quoting Bolton as making almost exactly that statement in an upcoming book. I would suggest no one, other than the mainstream media, Democrats and Impeachment House Managers, should be concerned about such a claim. Here's why:
  • Timing: story drops the day after the Trump defense team decimates the Democrat House Managers impeachment case against Trump
  • Source: a leak to The New York Times. How many times have we seen this before? This situation should be laughable to the general public by now. The accuracy & impact should be doubted, the spin is obvious.
  • Impact: the story says Trump ‘wanted’ to withhold the aid’. That sounds to me like a very standard internal brainstorming meeting, nothing more.
  • Actual result: Aid was released to Ukraine. Was more than they expected. Trump got nothing from the release of the aid.
  • What about the requirement to trade for 'Democrat investigations’? Looks like ‘spin’ to me, not a quote. Nothing wrong with being interested in pursuing corruption by ANY American.  Don’t the Democrats say that about Trump? Again, aid release, Trump got nothing.
  • Why is Bolton after Trump?: Not sure he is. Though, he did leave the administration, supposedly in a huff. Bolton maintains some connection to the 'deep state’, like the ‘interagency group’, policy managers that Trump is trying to release from control of US foreign policy. A difference of strategic opinion could be all this is. But, it is most likely similar to others who have left over strategic differences with the President, Bolton continues to be opposed to whatever strategy the President implemented against his advice. Curiosity. It is enlightening to remember how much Dems and media have always hated Bolton. Why is ne now their best friend? They can spin him again Trump. Who is benefited by the story? Democrats/Media/House Managers impeachment trial. Helps put pressure on 4 Rep Senators to vote for witnesses in the Senate trial. I can’t see any other serious impact or benefit from this story (other than to sell Bolton’s book).
Bolton’s story will remain in the media until he is called as a witness in the Senate impeachment trial, and even after Trump’s acquittal. Then, it will dissolve from all, except radical Dems and radical media, just as all others (Mueller Report on Russian Collusion, obstruction, anonymous letter supposedly from inside the administration attacking Trump, many books, et al) have. Obviously there is much more to come on this because its all the opposition has. Follow the news, using various sources, and evaluate what you hear based on your own common sense.
