The Justice Department will more aggressively target the gang for violating racketeering, gun and tax laws.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions Monday designated MS-13, the violent street gang, a target for a Justice Department task force that has traditionally attacked drug kingpins and cartels. The designation will allow the Justice Department to more aggressively target the gang for violating racketeering, gun and tax laws, Mr. Sessions said in a speech in Philadelphia to the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He likened the tactic to the way the U.S. government took down gangster Al Capone in the 1930s. “Just like we took Al Capone off the streets with our tax laws, we will do whatever it takes to take MS-13 off of our streets now,” Mr. Sessions told the police chiefs.
