Seriousness of the issue and lack of FBI credibility 'demand oversight'.

6/6/23
from The Gray Area:
6/6/23:
The Wall Street Journal subtitle says it all: The House Oversight Committee seeks an FBI document alleging Joe Biden took a bribe, and the effort to discredit the claim is already under way. The reaction of both left & right media is predictable: According to The Federalist, Republicans have threatened to hold Wray in contempt of Congress for weeks over the FBI chief’s refusal to hand over the requested record. Rep. Comer submitted a subpoena for the document with Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a primary watchdog of the Justice Department in the upper chamber. “We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States,” Grassley wrote in May. “What we don’t know is what, if anything, the FBI has done to verify these claims or investigate further. The FBI’s recent history of botching politically charged investigations demands close congressional oversight.” Sen Grassley's comment is the crucial point on this issue. If the FBI were the FBI of old, thus trustworthy in criminal matters, this would be less, or even not, an issue. But, that is far from the case today with the FBI.  As Grassley says, we need FBI oversight to insure this investigation, and all investigations, are thorough and politically blind. The seriousness of the evidence & the charge, and the lack of FBI credibility demands it. Some may argue, rightfully so, that now the House Republicans want to introduce a right wing political influence into the investigation. Hopefully not, but the process and its results will tell if that is the case. It became clear that political influence of the Democrat House was part of the January 6th Committee investigation process and result. Let's make this investigation legitimate, and not have another politically motivated investigation as an attempt to hit back at the opposition.
