4/26/22:
Apparently people at Twitter are threatening to leave, complaining about Musk not paying his 'fair share' of taxes and, according to Twitter, may be attempting to sabotage the platform when Musk takes over. All in reaction to his purchase of the company.
What problem could people possibly have with this statement:
“'Twitter the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.' ... having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization.”
Doesn't the left & right want this same thing?
Of course, Musk has said other things that would sound like blasphemy to the left. For example:
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy..."
“At its heart, wokeness is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful,” Musk added. “It basically gives mean people a reason, it gives them a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.”
But, to really understand the concern, you can always just go back to the media. Here, WaPo tries to refute a coplaint of Musk's obout Twitter objectivity and censorship:
On Tuesday, Musk added to his criticisms of Twitter and gave some clues to how he would manage his public presence while running the social site. He tweeted that the company was “inappropriate” in suspending the account of a news organization for publishing a truthful story. Musk’s tweet was an incorrect reference to an action Twitter took, then reversed, during the 2020 presidential election, when the company temporarily blocked a New York Post story that it feared violated a policy against posting hacked materials. The company did not suspend the entire news organization but did prevent it from tweeting for a period of time.
Notice what WaPo did here? They decided what Musk said about the NY Post was false. Then in explaining whay it was false, they confirmed it was true. So the reader is left with, yeah, that was false because WaPo said so. Even though they really proved his point.
The reason free speech and trust in media (social media) in being destroyed is because some people live in ideology, not reality. Ideology tells you free speech is dangerous. Reality says “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy..."
