During his 2013 State of the Union address, President Obama called for a universal preschool program. The idea is that widespread preschool will boost students’ educational achievements later in life. The fact is, however, that universal preschool–which is on the books in Georgia and Oklahoma–is costly and has not been demonstrated to improve educational achievement. Watch the debate below.

What's the risk of kids going back to school?

7/25/20
from The Gray Area:
7/25/20:

The CDC has agreed with President Trump that kids should go back to school. Only exception, some current COVID hot spots.

Makes sense.

What have we learned about this disease & kids?

We have learned that children are not affected very much at all by this disease.

We have learned the disease seriously affects a very specific subset of our population. For those groups we have to be very careful, including kids with underlying conditions.

We have learned that we have better ways to treat the disease now than we did early on.

We have learned that the disease is NOT a death sentence.

A few simple statistics:

According to these stats, 1 in 1,000,000 kids could die going back to school. They are at greater risk from car accidents.

Here is a list of activities which doctors in Texas have assigned a COVID risk factor. It shows 'sending kids to school' rated as 6 out of 10.

Seems like a cautious, but realistic, assessment of risk to me.
