Medicare
Medicare is a national social insurance program, administered by the U.S. federal government, that guarantees access to health insurance for Americans ages 65 and older and younger people with disabilities as well as people with end stage renal disease. Medicare offers all enrollees a defined benefit. Hospital care is covered under Part A and outpatient medical services are covered under Part B. Medicare Part D covers outpatient prescription drugs. According to the 2012 Medicare Annual Report, the Trustees project that Medicare costs will grow substantially until Trust fund exhaustion occurs in 2024. This model is obviously in need of urgent repair.

Trump Targets Medicare for All in Re-Election Campaign

10/3/19
from The Wall Street Journal,
10/3/19:

President uses signing of executive order in Florida to lay out his actions on health policy.

resident Trump attacked Medicare for All on Thursday while laying out his own vision for health care, part of an effort to challenge Democratic presidential candidates proposing a federal system. He signed an executive order calling for initiatives to reduce Medicare fraud and bolster privatized Medicare plans. But the president’s speech in Florida, a 2020 battleground with a large population of reliable voters, focused mostly on lambasting Medicare for All, a proposal to upend the current health-care system with a federally-run program, as socialism.
