Culture War
Many from both the right and the left bemoan the state of the American culture today. Whether it is the lack of positive images in TV, movies, music, politicians, sports figures, police in schools and more, freedom and morality are discussed as being in conflict with each other. Benjamin Franklin once wrote on the subject: "Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need for masters." This should ring true to you today as we debate not only our eroding culture, but the role of government in our lives. Are culture and the need for more government control more connected than we realize?

Political narratives and virtue signalling has begun a soft, yet dangerous, civil war

The culture war is evolving into a soft civil war. An economic civil war currently exists in the country. On a daily basis we call it cancel culture. wokeness, and corporate activism. Corporations are becoming far more vocal in support of social issues they agree with. Far left states are now cancelling others who don't agree with their 'values'. We also call all this value signaling, which accurately identifies the activities, but also softens the true and dangerous nature of the emotion within the social divisions.

Now some blue states, California, Georgia, Illinois, for example, are publicly promoting boycotts of red states because of what they believe are strict LGBTQ and abortion laws. They say we must do this to “align our dollars with our values.” Red states, however, are not trying to force blue states to agree with red state values. These blue state leaders seem to believe that what one state believes all states must believe. The tyranny of this thinking is overlooked to further promote the cultural policy. The ends justify these means. Don't you realize Gov Newsom, that this strategy can work both ways. A strong response from red states should be expected. In one example, a NATO like alliance among red states will up the ante against blue states who enact such restrictive and authoritarian policies. Unfortunately this activity can further escalate. States will begin to restrict movement of goods, closing roads to certain trucks, ports to certain ships, unloading of same vehicles from boycotted states, much like those of other countries. And on, and on... There is a logical evolution and it is bad. Who would really want that? Who is so narrow as to not think this could not happen? Or, is it a desired outcome for some? If those questions are frightening, they should be. Our foundation is cracking. Political narratives, virtue signalling, and shows of state solidarity on social issues is one thing. But, reality and common sense should take control. Persuade and prove your ideas are better, don't force them on people. This country works on the rule of law, the Constitution and compromise, run by a people with unified basic values. Without each we will devolve as third world countries do, because they have no unified foundation. A soft civil war has begun and as has historically in this country, it begins with radicals Democrats taking things too far.
