John McCain, Statesman

John McCain died this weekend and the political and media world is coming forward in rightful admiration of the man.

John McCain was a Navy veteran from a family who fought in every war for this country since the revolution. He was a hero for his actions as a POW in the "Hanoi Hilton' during the Vietnam War. (Millenials, since you didn't get it in your education, if you want to understand that comment, read David Foster Wallace essay on John McCain in Rolling Stone back in 2000.)

He was a champion of American leadership on the world stage.

He was a long term Republican member of Congress who would cross the aisle every day to bring everyone's considered opinion to an issue.

He would go against his own party if need be and did on many occasions to the dismay of hard core Tea Party and right wing members of the party.

He recognized the history of Congress and that it was a deliberative body, not a political body.

You could count on him always to do the right thing, period.

I voted for him for President in 2008 for these reasons and against his opponent, a Marxist revolutionary.

I voted for John McCain in spite of the fact that he did not realize, or chose to ignore, that the 'loyal opposition' he went to see across the aisle was determined to destroy him, his party, his values and were in fact using him.

He did not understand that strength, the kind he used in war, was needed to fight this enemy, not collaboration or compromise. That had been tried over and over again and failed. The proof is McCain always had to cross the aisle. NEVER, would a Democrat cross the aisle to include consideration of Republican's opinion on an issue.

The media loved this about John McCain. He would help them attack the right (Republican's, Conservative's, et al), while espousing a higher principle like what's best for the country not ideology or party (principles the Dems did not support) and letting the Democrats have their way.

This is everything you need to know about the state of our country today.

- A media that when he went against his own Republican party celebrated him, and continued celebrating his Trump hatred even to this day. The media celebrated his stance on torture to assist their misleading attacks on George Bush. When he ran for President against their party (Dems), they savaged him. None of the promotion of his military story that is promoted today upon his death was promoted when he ran for president against the Dems. It was comfortably ignored and downplayed.

- An education system that would not place value on that kind of character for our young that John McCain lived.

- The culture that would elect a Marxist who hates the country, over an American hero who reaches across the aisle, suffered personally for a bigger principal than his own self interest, and from a family who has always given everything for this country.

For an inspirational look into the man, read John McCain’s farewell letter.

John McCain was a statesman, something the US Senate could use 99 more of. But, during the past 25 years, what was needed was John McCain, the warrior.
