Immigration
There is probably no clearer example of the partisan political divide than with regard to the issue of immigration. From border states like Texas and Arizona where the problem is illegal immigration and criminal activity to other states like California and Washington who need temporary farm laborers and skilled technology workers, the immigration issue is hotly debated. Unfortunately, the radical fringe of both the left (more minority immigrants=more votes) and right (build a wall & no path to citizenship for illegals) are controlling the immigration conversation with absolutely no attention to the what is best for America. Unlike a few other issues, this issue is ripe for a compromise solution if only the majority of both the left and right would stand up and recognize there is little that separates you on this issue. Lets regain our common sense on this issue and get the radicals out of the way.

All the above

from The Gray Area:
10/6/23:

President Biden's Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas announced yesterday that a section of the border wall (the vicinity of the international land border in Starr County, Texas) was going to be restarted. "There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas," Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said in a notice. Biden said in 2020 that "there will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration." He and his administration have said every day since then that the border is secure. He says today that is still the policy of his administration, but their is nothing he can do about it. It is money that was left for the wall by the Trump Administration and cannot be spent for anything else. Then why not continue to leave it there and not use it as he has done for the past 3 years? Because spending money, not saving money, is a Democrat imperative. Even if they do not like the expenditure, spending is always a good thing. In addition, the Biden Administration has been taking tremendous heat for those 3 years from Republicans and border state governors. But, now that heat is also coming from his own party. Democrat mayors in Chicago, New York and California are pleading for Biden to do something about the problem at the southern border that has now reached their doorsteps. And, after the Mayorkas' announcement, progressives have come out against the move. Now Biden has Democrats telling him to do something at the border and Democrats telling him to do nothing. Wow, what a political squeeze, to go along with his low approval across America on management of the border. Interestingly, Newsweek reported today, the government has been selling off surplus border wall materials up until weeks before approving the new wall section. How stupid does he and his party think the average American is? Pretty stupid, I guess to try to sell this load of political &#!+. Don't ever expect to see this new section of border wall started, much less completed. This is clearly a political stunt he can point to for those desperate Democrat states & cities. It is also something he will use in budget negotiations with the Republicans in the House over the next 45 days as they are demanding action on the border in order to approve any budget spending. And he will end up not building any wall which will eventually shut up the complaining progressives and give them what will appear to be a win. Therefore, is this a change in strategy, a show for the media and progressive leaders, a negotiation tactic with the Republican House, or, all the above? All of the above. Plus, incompetent leadership.
