Trump Infrastructure Speech at Transportation Dept
6/9/17
from The Gray Area:
6/9/17:
President Trump spoke about his plan to revitalize American infrastructure at the Transportation Department.
He used a 70 pound, $29M environmental study, $24,000 per page, for an 18 mile road, to illustrate the bureaucratic obstacles to upgrading our infrastructure. He also gave as an example of a 150,000 page administrative record for the Ohio River Bridge. 150k pages is a 5 story building!
He isolated specific infrastructure projects of the past and how few years it took to build them. 1 year to build the Empire State Building. 4 years to build the Golden Gate Bridge. 5 years to build the Hoover Dam.
Now it takes 10 years due to approval process, regulations which results in exorbitant costs.
He is:
Reducing burdensome regulations and massively streamlining approvals and permitting process.
Improving air traffic control system.
Generating $1T investment (Federal & private) in infrastructure. Only 7% of the 2009 Stimulus Plan went to infrastructure. Not quite 'shovel ready'.
His team is meeting with state & local teams as a first step to empowering states to replace & "construct new roads, rails, pipelines, tunnels, and bridges all across our nation.”
