Trump Says He Won’t Work With Democrats Until Probes Are Done

5/22/19:

President rules out infrastructure deal while investigations continue; lawmakers of both parties expect legislation to move ahead.

President Trump said he wouldn’t work with Congress while investigations of him continue and abruptly ended a planned infrastructure meeting with Democrats, casting fresh doubt on a divided Washington’s ability to complete big-ticket legislation in the next 18 months. The morning began with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) accusing the president of engaging in a “coverup” as she fended off a rising chorus of Democrats calling for the president’s impeachment, and ended with Mr. Trump storming out of the planned meeting after telling Democrats the infrastructure talks were off. He informed reporters moments later, at a hastily called news conference in the Rose Garden, that he wouldn’t work with Congress “under these circumstances.”
