New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one of the most vocal proponents of stricter gun laws in America, donated $350,000 to the two Democrats facing a recall election in Colorado after they voted for measures to reduce gun violence earlier this year.

Senate President John Morse of Colorado Springs and state Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo are set to face voters on Sept. 10. Gun rights advocates teamed up with the National Rifle Association to petition for their recall over their support for the comprehensive gun control package signed into law by Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) in March.

Morse and Giron were two of 18 senators to vote in favor of the ban on high-capacity magazines and two of 19 to vote in favor of expanded background checks.
