The evidence shows that black and Hispanic students are admitted at much higher rates than white and Asian students with the same academic credentials.

The principle at stake is the principle that made the civil rights movement so compelling; specifically, that every American is equal in the eyes of the law.

In its previous cases permitting racial admissions policies, the court said that they must end eventually. So, when do these ones end? The schools had no answer.
