The Problem With Lame-Duck Legislating
< < Go Back
Next week, Congress is going to vote on a continuing resolution (CR) to continue current levels of government funding past September 30.
Funding the government is about more than money—it’s about the policies that those dollars fund. Currently our taxpayer dollars are funding Biden’s agenda—high inflation, open borders, a student debt bailout, and a radical transgender agenda.
The House and Senate are currently working on a deal to fund the government past September 30. If that spending deal expires in December, it’s setting up a bad scenario for the American people. Congress is planning to let the CR expire on December 16, setting up a spending fight right before Christmas. Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have the opportunity to cement Biden’s failed agenda for a third year!
The Democrats have used this tactic before. In 2020, a last-minute vote in December was used to pass a massive spending bill which has directly contributed to the economic problems we are currently facing.
For the first 9 months of 2023, we will have funding for open borders, inflationary spending, and a student loan bailout.
Government spending in 2023 should reflect the will of the people, not the will of politicians on their way out.
So let’s pass a CR that extends funding until January. Then a new Congress can pass a bill to set the agenda for 2023
We don’t want open borders or high crime. We don’t want more funding for the transgender agenda. American voters should be the ones to decide the spending and policy agenda for 2023.
