What to Know: Sen. Rob Portman warns that more drugs are getting across the U.S. border because the Border Patrol is overwhelmed with the illegal immigration crisis — and that means more overdose deaths.
The TPPF Take: It’s true; to control the overdose crisis, we must control our own borders.
“Mexican cartels deliberately use and manipulate migrant crossings to distract Border Patrol agents, giving the cartels free access to vulnerable spots along the border,” says TPPF’s Ken Oliver. “This deadly drug crisis cannot be dealt with without reducing the record-breaking flow of migrants across the southern border and allowing the Border Patrol to do its job properly and apprehend smugglers.”
