Young Women from both political parties – how refreshing! Will it be too late?
< < Go Back
Since the 2018 mid-term election we have heard about the Democrat Party as the place for women. Particularly young, socialist women who hate President Trump. It was clear to the other half of the country that this was not the complete story o f 21st century women in politics.
How refreshing, young women from the GOP made significant inroads in the 2020 election to balance the message from the young, specifically young women. Who occupies the White House and controls the Senate in 2021 will determine if this balance is too late or not.
Nearly lost in the controversy over President Trump’s refusal to concede defeat is something momentous that unfolded in the background of 2020: remarkable advances by women.
As voters, as candidates and as campaign leaders, women were—and now are—in the driver’s seat as never before. People in politics have been talking for three decades about an elusive “year of the woman,” but we just saw something with consequences that will last far more than a single year.
“It’s not the year of the woman, but I would say it’s the era of women in the Democratic Party,” says Anita Dunn, a top adviser to President-elect Joe Biden’s campaign. “And if you look at the Republican congressional pickup, it’s that for the Republican Party as well.”
