AP media reporter David Bauder put heavy spin on MSNBC’s above average week, in an attempt to paint a picture of Fox News falling from its dominant cable news position.

Fox News pulled in 2.6 million viewers during the most recent study, while MSNBC, anchored by the Rachel Maddow Show, brought in 2.39 million of its own. Bauder summed up the numbers by saying they indicated “an ominous sign for troubled Fox News Channel.”

Seemingly ignoring the fact that Fox News still beat MSNBC by more than 200,000 viewers, and avoiding mention of the heavily anti-Trump news cycle last week, Bauder giddily portended the downfall of Fox News in a thinly-veiled attack on the network. Bauder also glossed over the inconveniently poor numbers for CNN, which managed only 1.32 million viewers in the same week.
