3/2/17:

The Senate voted Thursday to confirm Ben Carson as head of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he will oversee federal public housing programs.

Mr. Carson was approved on a 58 to 41 vote, which fell largely along party lines.

The retired neurosurgeon ran against President Trump in the 2016 GOP primary race. Mr. Carson endorsed Mr. Trump after pulling out of the contest, helping to assure activists that had questioned the New York Republican’s conservative credentials.

Democrats had been critical of the fact that Mr. Carson had no government or housing experience.

Still, Mr. Carson won unanimous support from the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, creating some headaches for Democrats, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.

Mrs. Warren on Wednesday voted against moving Mr. Carson’s nomination to a final vote.
