Government Shutdown
There is a need to pass a bill extending routine government funding after a stopgap bill expires March 27. Without an extension, a partial government shutdown would occur. Congress must pass this spending bill, called a continuing resolution or “CR,” which would continue spending after Sept. 30, 2013, the end of the 2013 fiscal year. As it stands now, the government’s legal authority to borrow more money runs out in mid-October, 2013. According to the Bipartisan Policy Center, if that date arrived on October 18, the Treasury “would be about $106 billion short of paying all bills owed between October 18 and November 15. The congressionally mandated limit on federal borrowing is currently set at $16.7 trillion. The debt limit has been raised 13 times since 2001 and has grown from about 55 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 2001 to 102 percent of GDP last year.

Shutdown / Wall & Common Sense

from Heritage Foundation,

It is day 29 of the partial government shutdown with no bipartisan agreement in sight. For those of us outside the halls of Congress, dollar amounts like $5.7 billion may seem large and hard to grasp. At 1.3 percent of the FY19 budget, $5.7 billion is just a small fraction of the $313 billion in spending that Congress has not yet authorized. If Democrats were being honest, they would recognize President Trump’s border request is a small price to pay for increase security of our borders. In fact, Republicans and Democrats were able to come together to fund an even more robust $40 billion border fence in 2006. Consider the cost of the following Democrat proposals: Government-Run Health Care – $32 trillion New Long Term Care Entitlements – $3.1 trillion A “Green New Deal” – $2.5 trillion (and counting) “Free” College – $807 billion Government Job Guarantee – $400 billion Social Security Expansion – $188 billion Altogether, that’s $39 trillion in spending! $5.7 billion is less than two-hundredths of a percent of that, and yet the liberals say “we can’t afford it!” We are right to fight for border security. Our nation is hurting from the influx of illegal immigration as well as the drugs pouring across our border. We must end this crisis.
