Europe's epic energy fail
Europe is reeling from energy price shocks. Germany, for example, shut down perfectly functioning nuclear plants. Then they clear cut forests to make way for wind turbines, transformed meadows into solar deserts, and foolishly plastered solar panels on steep pitched roofs. When intermittent electricity couldn’t power the German economy, they turned to natural gas from Putin. Then they went back to brown coal. Farmers are driving tractors into town to protest outrageous restrictions that threaten their food supply. Drivers are in rebellion over government attempts to push them into electric vehicles they don’t choose to drive. Europe is a perfect example of what not to do on energy, yet the Biden Administration can’t seem to find a bad idea it doesn’t want to mandate.
