What to Know: The Texas Senate has passed a resolution declaring the immigration crisis at our southern border an emergency.

“The Texas Senate has approved a resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s assertion that there is an immigration ‘crisis’ on the U.S.-Mexico border,” the Associated Press reports. “The non-binding language was introduced on the floor by Houston Republican Sen. Paul Bettencourt on Tuesday. Outnumbered Democrats said they were blindsided and complained bitterly during hours of heated debate — but they didn’t have the votes to stop it. The purely ceremonial resolution stated that the ‘Texas Senate supports the president in his efforts to move forward with emergency action’ on the border.”

The TPPF Take: The Senate is simply acknowledging the truth—the influx of migrants at our southern border is overwhelming our immigration system.

“It’s not just an immigration crisis, it’s a humanitarian crisis and a human trafficking crisis,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “The federal government has not fulfilled its obligation to maintain order and safety at the border, and Texas now bears the brunt of that failure. It’s time for the federal government to enforce our laws and protect our nation.”
