RUSH: It’s arguable which is the big story today. I think this one is. This story and the New Green Deal combined could end up destroying Democrats’ electability chances in 2020 if the information is used correctly. Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska proposed a simple bill in the United States Senate. It’s called the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

It had one objective, and that was to force lawmakers to go on the record about whether they support or oppose infanticide. It was just a bill in the Senate. There is no counterpart in the House. The bill had no hope of becoming law, at least not any time soon, sadly. It was simply what Sasse says it is. “I’m gonna put people on the record.” Kind of like what The Turtle did with the Green New Deal by calling for an early vote on it.

Now, the bill in the Senate that Sasse authored is titled S. 311. It aimed to ensure that, quote, “If an abortion results in the live birth of an infant, the infant is a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States,” and the Constitution, “and entitled to all the protections of such laws.” Quite simple, isn’t it? If an abortion results in the live birth of a baby, a baby human being, that baby, that human being is at that moment a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the U.S.

What do you think happened? That bill failed. The vote was 53 to 44. They needed 60 votes for the bill to pass. A bunch of Democrats — and among them several Democrat candidates for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2020 — voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Three Democrats voted for it. Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Bob Casey Jr. Pennsylvania, Doug Jones of Alabama. Three Republicans did not vote. Senators Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Tim Scott of South Carolina.

Let me read to you the bill: “If an abortion results in the live birth of an infant, the infant is a legal person for all purposes under the laws of the United States, and entitled to all the protections of such laws.” Where is anything about the health of the mother in that bill? It isn’t. There is nothing that would hinder women’s health care.

Do you not find it strange that in the United States of America we may need a separate piece of legislation to say that a human being is indeed a human being? And that now we’ve got the Democrat Party in most numbers voting against that proposition? We thought it was bad when Ralph Northam of Virginia and then the New York state Senate gave it a standing O, but now it’s the U.S. Senate, my friends, the U.S. Senate that says that baby ain’t one. That baby is still a disease. It is still a sickness. It’s still a problem for the mother!

But it’s a baby. I mean, it’s a human being. It survived abortion. “Senator Tina Smith, Democrat, Minnesota, claimed that the bill ‘forces physicians to provide inappropriate medical treatment.’” It doesn’t do anything of the sort! It doesn’t force anybody to do anything except acknowledge that a baby is a baby! It doesn’t put one bit of pressure on abortion providers or doctors.

These are the same damn Democrats who claim that Trump’s biggest crime against humanity is “separating children from their mothers” at the border, right? What separates children from their mothers more than being killed after surviving an abortion? Hmm?
