Debate About Sovereignty Breaks Out at UN

The annual UN debate about the death penalty took place this week and in the midst of it came a call for national sovereignty. There is a belief among the imperial Europeans that certain norms are universal and they seek to impose them on the whole world, in this case, the death penalty that they seek to abolish. Certain countries stood up to them precisely on the grounds of national sovereignty and we say good for them. Let countries decide these difficult questions free from pressure and all manner of coercion.
