A few weeks ago, Texas was rocked by a senseless shooting at Santa Fe High School. Governor Greg Abbott immediately vowed to take action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

And in less than two weeks after the shooting, Gov. Abbott unveiled the results of his and the committees’ efforts in a plan that can be put in place before school begins in August this year.

In announcing the plan at a press conference, the Governor said:

“We need to do more than just pray for the victims and their families. It’s in Texas that we take action, to step up and make sure this tragedy is never repeated.

“This plan is a starting point, not an ending place,” Abbott said. “It provides strategies that can be used before the next school year begins to keep our students safe when they return to school. This plan will make our schools safer and our communities safer.”

Following is an outline of the plan.
