Senior Pakistani Officials warned that a US suspension of security aid will push their country closer to China, Washington’s main rival for influence in Asia. … Pakistan’s Defense Minister said in an interview, “by choosing castigation over cooperation, the US has emasculated the war on terror in this region.”

China has invested heavily in a relationship with Pakistan that is redefining the balance of power in Asia. It is anchored by a $55 B plus infrastructure program that has overshadowed the $5B in US economic aid under President Obama, which produced no major infrastructure.

China’s investment aims in pat to boost Pakistan’s economy as a counterweight to India.

The US has tilted toward India as it seeks to counter Chinese sway across Asia.
