Hurricane illusions – and realities
< < Go Back
In addition to those on the left side of the political spectrum, is the emergence in Congress of a so-called “Climate Solutions Caucus“. This is a “bipartisan’ committee of more than 50 House members- equally divided between Democrats & Republicans – who have drunk the Kool-Aid fed them by climate alarmists.
They are determined to prevent President Trump from dismantling the climate alarm agenda. They want to set aside partisan scuffles in order to combat climate change together.
You know what combating climate change really means? It means as end to abundant, affordable and reliable energy. It means killing the now vibrant US Energy sector. It means less prosperity and lower standards of living for millions of low and middle income Americans.
It means dooming the developing world to an inescapable cycle of poverty. it means slowly ceding our national sovereignty to international bodies like the UN, whose only real goal is to redistribute wealth on a global basis.
And, as we have seen lately, it means an intensifying, often government assisted campaign of harassment, demonization, censorship, and even prosecution of all who dare to question climate hysteria dognma.
The climate hysterics are ruthlessly exploiting hurricanes Harvey & Irma to ramp up the fear-mongering and drive public opinion in their direction. Their media friends at CNN, The Hew York Times, The Washington Post and many others have, as usual, done all they can to help stoke the flames of fear. No doubt the recent hurricanes will be a crucial part of the smug number of “I told you so” jabs from the climate radicals. But, lets talk about the hurricanes for a minute:
CLAIM: The media, as usual, went nuts covering the storms. On hurricane Irma, we saw headlines such as “the most powerful Atlantic hurricane on record“, even “the deadliest storm in history“.
FACT: At landfall, Irma was only the 7th most intense storm in US history. As for “the deadliest”, Irma doesn’t even make the top 10. Hurricane Mitch (1998) killed 11,000people in Central America; the death toll from Fifi-Orlene (1974) was 8,000 and 7,000 died in the Caribbean from Flora (1963).
CLAIM: These storms were caused or made worse by global warming.
FACT: Hurricanes have been hitting Florida, Texas and the Caribbean since long before the Industrial Revolution, let alone the 20th Century. It’s simply absurd to suggest they could somehow be prevented by adopting the climate alarm policy agenda. Even the (usually pro-climate-alarm) National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says there’s no evidence anyone can detect that greenhouse gas emissions have an effect on the formation or strength of hurricanes.
CLAIM: Dr. Michael Mann, king of the climate alarmists an creator of the now debunked “hockey stick” graph o climate catastrophe (featured in Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth film), claims increased temperatures made these storms more severe.
FACT: Hurricane Irma formed over water that was two degrees cooler than normal.
A UN Climate gathering in Bonn drive the entire global warming alarmist movement. This rapidly approaching conference will be the next step in an orchestrated plan to push our nation and the world toward total, unquestioning acceptance of the UN climate agenda.
What is that agenda?
It’s a radical agenda – not about “science” or “saving the planet” – but about ideology and power. An agenda of the extreme left. An agenda to curtail growing prosperity and human progress around the world. In short, an agenda to destroy capitalism.
Hear how United Nations climate official Ottmar Edenhofer puts it: One must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth by climate policy.”
Al Gore’s climate change movie, An Inconvenient Sequel has been a box office bust, as inconvenient truths emerged as blatant falsehoods.
CFACT’s documentary Climate Hustle, is a perfect antidote to “dangerous manmade climate change” doomsaying. It presents evidence based science that explain Earth’s climate fluctuations are due to changes in solar energy output, cosmic rays ocean circulation and other powerful natural forces that humans cannot control. Scientists also point to real world conflicts with climate cataclysm narrative. For example, contrary to computer climate model forecasts, satellite and weather balloon data show average global temperatures have been essentially stable since 1999, except for a one year spike during the strong 2015-16 El Nino. Temperatures are already back to where they were before the Pacific Ocean warming event. Even the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change data show recent sea level rise is similar to changes during the 1940s and 1950s. Large scale ice melting could certainly cause much higher sea levels int eh future, but Antarctica ice is growing, while Greenland’s ice is variable. There is no evidence so far that human activities are influencing sea level rise. Meanwhile, boldly defying climate models that predicted they would melt, Karakoram Mountain Range glaciers are either stable or growing. German scientists recently predicted “cooling until 2070”.
Weather tracker Roger Pielke, Jr. notes that since 1900 the US has seen a 20% decrease in hurricane frequency and intensity at landfall, while flood, drought and tornado data show no sign that they have become more frequent or severe. Monetary damages have risen when hurricanes do hit, but that’s because populations and property values near our coasts continue to increase. The year 1974 spawned 1125 violent tornadoes from EWF-3 to EF-5, versus fewere than 40 in 2008 and 2010 – the worst tornado years in recent memory. From 2012-16 there were half as many US tornadoes as in 2008.
All these facts are contrary to Al Gore’s claims.
