Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi

A senior Iranian official says the Islamic Republic has lived up to its commitments under the historic nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in 2015.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi made the comment after a meeting with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano in Vienna, Austria, on Monday, a day before the seventh scheduled meeting of the Iran-P5+1 Joint Commission, which monitors the implementation of the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“As the entire world knows and repeated reports by the agency have confirmed, Iran has always been committed to its obligations and carefully implemented the JCPOA,” Araqchi, who is the Iranian head of the commission, said.

He, however, emphasized that the other side had not fully complied with its obligations under the JCPOA.

Araqchi commended the “good cooperation” between Iran and the IAEA and said issues and obstacles always exist and are discussed in different meetings and removed through expert action.

The Iranian official emphasized that the Islamic Republic seeks to continue its cooperation with the UN nuclear agency.
