Trump Self Destructs Again

In the 3rd and final presidential debate tonight, Donald Trump gave a good performance. He was for the most part calm, he made good points about Hillary Clinton’s deficiencies and effectively reinforced some of his positions.

But, once again, and probably for the final time, he frustrated his supporters and shocked his opposition with unnecessary errors. Tomorrow, instead of thoughtful debate about important issues, Donald Trump will once again be making headlines he didn’t need and that don’t help his campaign.

Trump’s refusal to say he would accept the election results if he loses will dominate the headlines, the talk shows and overshadow his positives and her shortcomings. In other words, what he did well will be missed and his opportunity to turn the tide in the polls tonight will be lost.

In addition to the election results issue, he made a comment under his breath about Hillary being “such a nasty woman”, denied instead of explaining things he clearly said and went off question on tangents. These will also become topics of discussion instead of, for example, WikiLeaks revelations.
A few other serious points during the evening that will be missed in the post debate analysis:

-Hillary avoided answering questions about The Clinton Foundation and Wikileaks email contents.
-She got off the hook on “open borders’,
-Why Hillary believes the government should not control abortions but should control all healthcare, the economy and what bathrooms we use?
-How Hillary said she doesn’t think the 2nd amendment is a right, but says tonight she supports the 2nd amendment?
-Hillary has been outsmarted and disrespected by Putin and Iran
-She says civil war in Syria is aided and abetted by Russia and Iran – but she supports giving Iran money!
-the only reason we are going after Mosul because she is running for president in hopes it will make she and President Obama look tough
-her only plan for debt and entitlement collapse is for the wealthy to pay off debt and pay into teh Social Security trust fund
-her lack of results after 30 years.

None of this will make the morning news cycle. Only Trump’s lack of commitment to accept the election results.

Worse of all, Trump’s self inflicted wounds tonight will overshadow a basic fact of this election shared by all voters. This election can not be about the people running, they are horrific! It has to be about the policies for the future of the country they say they represent. What makes sense and what doesn’t. Explaining the differences so people can understand. So they can vote for those policies with which they agree and ignore the deficiencies of these two horrible candidates.

The clarity in the differences of the proposed directions is lost and the personalities are all that is left. This has been Hillary’s strategy and she wins on that message, which proves how bad the candidates are, and how much the country loses in this election season.
